We are starting a new book, Science Set Free: 10 Paths to New Discovery (2013), by Rupert Sheldrake. This book was originally published in Great Britain in 2012 under the title, The Science Delusion. For the 11th we’ll read through chapter 3. It can be had for under $15 in paperback and for about $12 as an ebook.
Sheldrake has a bit of a reputation as a maverick, and here he attempts to redirect how the scientific community thinks of reality, freeing them, he claims, from a stifling materialist approach to something more broad and open. Is the scientific community stifled? Is materialism moribund, as he says? The MISF Philosophy Study Group is certainly not, and we plan on doing some very unmoribundy things as we discuss this book.
